Veteran Services

Horan & McConaty is grateful to the veterans in our community for their service and sacrifice. We are honored to provide care and support to service members and their families in their time of mourning. Whether you are preplanning your arrangements or facing the loss of a loved one, we can help you arrange a final service with the benefits and honors your veteran deserves.

When a servicemember or veteran dies, there is necessary paperwork that must be filed to collect veterans’ benefits and receive military honors. We can help you with the application or claim on your behalf, easing the burden in your time of need.

Funeral & Memorial Honors

Depending on eligibility, funeral benefits to honor veterans may include the following:

  • Memorial U.S. flag
  • Presidential Memorial Certificate
  • Veterans Administration headstone or marker
  • Burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery
  • Military flag folder and presenter
  • Tolling of the Honor Bell at Ft. Logan National Cemetery

Full military honors, including the playing of “Taps” and a rifle detail, can be provided at a graveside service, or outside the crematorium or memorial chapel, as necessary to accommodate many types of memorials.

Financial Benefits

Veterans are entitled to certain financial benefits to assist with the cost of a funeral or other final expenses. To qualify, the veteran must have completed their required period of service and been discharged or separated from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable. U.S. Armed Forces members who die on active duty are also eligible, as well as the spouses and dependent children of eligible living and deceased veterans and armed forces members.

If the veteran was in a VA hospital, under VA-contracted nursing home care, or will be buried in a VA National Cemetery, some or all of the cost of transporting the deceased may also be reimbursed.

Horan & McConaty can help you with applying for these benefits. We will need a copy of the veteran’s honorable discharge (DD-214) paperwork to ensure eligibility. We will provide the death certificate and help you with any additional details that may be necessary.
